London: Amir Khan got engaged to 20-year-old New Yorker Faryal Makhdoom at a grand 150,000-pound affair on Sunday,
Makhdoom is of Pakistani descent like the boxer and had met him last July. She has since visited Khan’s family at their home in Bolton and spent five days meeting his nieces, nephews and cousins,
Khan presented his to-be-bride with a 100,000-pound band set with three diamonds as they celebrated with 1,000 family and friends at his beloved Bolton Wanderers’ Reebok Stadium, the Sun reported,
Guests at the bash in his Lancs hometown included former boxing champ Ricky Hatton and ex Wanderers skipper Kevin Nolan.
“Faryal is so humble. Anybody who meets her is going to fall in love with her. She’s got no edge, she’s just a terrific person,” he said.
‘I was used to London accents and thought that’s how everyone spoke in Britain,’ she told the Sun last week.
‘But when Amir opened his mouth it was completely different.
‘It was like he was speaking in a foreign tongue — so I just used to nod, agree with whatever he was talking about and say, ‘Yeah’.
‘He’d say things like “daft” and “innit” and I had no idea what they meant. He’d say, “Don’t be daft!” – and I’d be wondering what daft was supposed to be'.
